Who can become an apprentice or trainee?

Anyone of working age who is interested in a career in  the industry of their choice can be an apprentice or trainee  (subject to citizenship or visa conditions.

These are the options available

  • School base apprenticeship or traineeship: if the person suitable for the job is still at school and  would like to finish VCE or VCAL,  a school base apprenticeship or traineeship can be organized with the help of the careers advisers. Under a School Based Apprenticeship and Traineeship, students will spend time at school, time with the employer, and some time doing training  with Melbourne Institute of Nails & Beauty.
  • Part time or full time Apprenticeship or Traineeship: Some employers are willing to train someone they  already employ as an apprentice or trainee, if this employee doesn’t have some of the skills their industry requires.  In this situation, apprenticeships  and traineeships can help to gain those skills through both the structured off the job or workplace based training and practical experience in the  workplace. However the employer, even if possess Certificate IV in training and assessment cannot issue the required qualification. Apprenticeship or Traineeship always required three subjects: employer, trainee and RTO.

Find an employer

Once you have decided which apprenticeship or traineeship you want to do, you will need to find an employer who will give you a job so you can earn while you learn. There are two ways you can be employed as an apprentice or trainee:

You can be employed directly by a business.   The business will pay your wages and train you with the support of a training organisation.

To find an employer contact businesses either in person or through a letter.

You can also apply to our group and according to our requirement at the time we can consider your application. If you decide to apply with us we need to see a plan for your future career.

Choose your training partners

You and your employer will be required to sign a training contract as an agreement to work and train together for a length of time. A training contract is a legally binding record documenting the roles and responsibilities of both you and your employer. If you are aged under 18, your parent or guardian must also sign the contract.
An Australian Apprenticeships Centre will also work with you and your employer at this stage to help you complete the training contract and can be contacted on 13 38 73.

Choose a training organisation

You and your employer will choose a training organisation (TAFE or private registered training organisation) that will work with you throughout the apprenticeship or traineeship. Of course we like to think that you will choose Melbourne Institute of Nails & Beauty as your training organization of choice. Please remember that no Appenticeship Centre or employer can tell where to go for your training. Melbourne Institute of Nails & Beauty  will help you and your employer develop a training plan, deliver training, assess your achievement of skills, and issue the qualification on successful completion of your apprenticeship or traineeship.
