Information for students who will be attending year 11 and 12

The currents system allows many options for students at secondary school, making not always easy to make a choice.

Students who will be undertaking year 11 and 12 cad do so under two scheme:

  1. VCE : Victoria Certificate of Education; and
  2. VCAL: Vocational Certificate of applied learning

In both cases, students are allow to study VET Nationally accredited courses and have their results transferred towards their final results in VCE or VCAL.

VET, Vocational Education and Training, is administered by VCAA and delivered by RTO, Recognised Training Organization.

There are few ways in which VET certificates can be delivered to students attending year 11 and 12:

  1. Schools can negotiate for an RTO to provide on-site training for students at the school. The course can be delivered directly by your secondary school, under the auspice of an RTO. In this case schools can negotiate with an RTO to deliver the program, where the school can demonstrate access to suitable staffing and resources. The RTO may also auspice the school to gather evidence for assessment or to conduct assessment of the components delivered by the school. Melbourne Institute of Nails & Beauty can arrange to deliver at the school premises under a partnership agreement with the school.
  2. School can negotiate a program with an RTO or TAFE for the course to be delivered at the RTO facilities. Melbourne Institute of Nails & Beauty can offer a comprehensive delivery in Nail Technology, Beauty and Hairdressing at their own brand new facilities in Shelley Street North Richmond.
  3. Structured Workplace Learning: school and RTO may arrange for delivery or partial delivery of training and assessment to occur in the workplace. Melbourne Institute of Nails & Beauty can arrange comprehensive work place placement and partial delivery at one of the salons benefiting of their special partnership with a very large number of businesses. However, Odyssey Nails Hair & Beauty in Docklands and Nails r Us in Roxburgh Park are two of the main salon where workplace work placement and  partial delivery can be arranged.
  4. School base apprenticeship and traineeship: There are two ways in which students may undertake and apprenticeship or traineeship while still at school:
    1. School base apprenticeship or traineeship which involve students to undertake VCE or VCAL as well as being employed part - time and trained by an employee. In this case working and RTO attendance are worked out according to a plan agreed between school, employer and RTO. Apprenticeship and traineeship is attended during school hours.
    2. Part time apprenticeship or traineeship: in this case, base on the same plan agreed between employer, school and RTO students might work part time and attend the RTO outside the school hours on a part time basis. Both RTO and employer are under the obligation to let the student attend normal school hours to finish VCE or VCAL.

Students who are interest in the above alternative pathways should talk to their coordinator at school. We invite students and coordinators to talk to us about the alternative pathways in order to work out the best solution for the studet's future.
